A couple of months ago, I bought a few unpainted birdhouses. I love birdhouses. I have a few on my patio and throughout my garden. At the time I really didn’t know what I was going to do with them (the mind of a crafter, buying things…just because); so a couple of days ago I was shopping around in Hobby Lobby and I came across these amazing planters. That’s when I decided that I would used this planter with the bird house. This is the craft that I came up with, a planter, bird house all in one. I really love the planter, when people see it they think that it’s a real tree trunk. Below I put together a tutorial on how I put this together… this would be a quick Mother’s Day gift, enjoy! “HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!”
How to put together the planter
I used a spindle from a bulk of spindles that my husband had in the garage, you can use a dowel. Screw a dowel screw on one end of the spindle to connect to the bird house. Also, drill a hole the size of the screw on the other end of your stick (dowel) to connect the planter to the dowel. Make sure that the planter that you use has a whole in the bottom, so that you can connect the dowel to the planter. You may have to use a washer to compensate for the size of the hole at the bottom of the planter. Adhere four round felted pads under the base of the planter.
Cut the perch off if you want to use something else for a perch (I used a draw pull)
I painted the first layer black and after drying I painted with a beige color
I just love this planter!
Paint the birdhouse to whatever style you want. (I made it simple) Also, I used sanding paper to scuff up the birdhouse a little.
I planted some coleus in my planter….love it!
