Have you ever thought about making your own Christmas tree? Well, I have and did. I wanted a small white christmas tree in my kitchen dining area, about 4 to 5 feet tall. After searching the internet and checking out the prices (that I didn’t want to pay); I decided to create my own. So here you will see how simple and how rewarding it is to make your own christmas tree from scratch!
Supplies:
Garland 2 packages (i paid $4.00)
paint
wire cutter
container
weight (of some kind, I used sand)
drill
pencil
measuring tape
use a 1/2 inch dowel, paint it, position stick in whatever container you choose….( I didn’t use this one, I changed it to a clay pot) pour sand in container
mark stick at 2″ apart
insert a drill bit in your drill that’s the same size or close to the size of the wire on the garland, drill 4 holes at each 2″ mark, alternate position of holes as you drill at each 2″ on the dowel, when drilling holes, first drill a pivot hole and then drill in a slanted position down, also drill a hole at the top of the dowel, cut the garland branches and put them in order of size, when inserting branches start at the bottom with the longest branches and work your way up in size to the smallest, put a branch that has about 4 to 5 branches in the top of the dowel..shape it and ta-da, you have yourself a beautiful white Christmas tree!
so, instead of me spending from $50 to $60 for a tree, It cost me about $10 to make!
the cute little owls, snowmen, and silver balls were purchased at Tuesday Morning, the red apples were purchased at the Thrift store and I glued them with red glitter, the stars are made from homemade flour dough and painted with silver paint, the container I used was a one of these clay pots I used in this post and I painted it silver
…and I set it on a pedestal!

Your tree is beautiful! There is a missing piece. How did you make each of the branches? I think it is incredible that you made this tree for $10. Amazing. I would love to make one. Quite an inspiration. Wouldn’t it be great to have a little tree in each room?

Hi Joanie!
Thank you, I didn’t show a picture of me cutting the branches from the garland (hard to take pictures like that when you are doing it alone). ***smile***
I used a wire cutter to cut the branches from the garland.

This is wonderful! At first I thought you painted a green garland. My reaction was, “wow, she is FULL of energy!” But seriously, as another commenter said, this has such potential for custom size trees when you either can’t find – or don’t want to pay for – exactly what you need. Very resourceful and the finished tree is terrific!

Way to go! It looks like this was quite the project. I think I might try this, since I can’t seem to find a tree that’s not too little, but not too big, and not too expensive.
