What an easy peasy way of updating with out spending any money! My knife block was so blasé that I decided to paint mine, using acrylic paint I already had! So if you have a butcher block that needs a little uplift, don’t go buy a new one paint it.
You see what I mean by it being blasé. If your block isn’t painted black like mine you should paint it a dark coat of paint before painting the top coat.
Make sure you wash it before painting it. Use a wooden applique´ paint it black and nail it to the block. Next paint the block the color of your choice; if you have to give it a couple of coats (let dry between coats). When it dries, us a fine piece of sand paper and sand off the top coat on the corners and on the wooden applique´ to give it an aged look, then lightly sand the all over. Next use a paper towel and rub it firmly to give it a shine.
I love it!!

Adorable. It went from drab to dreamy with just a few brush strokes.

Aren’t you the smart one. I hate how our knife block looks so I hide in a cupboard. At least now you can show off your knife block as it looks so much nicer, love wood applique, makes it awesome. Simple easy project, great idea Cynthia. Pretty name too

Hi Cynthia! I see this is last year’s post but just found it thanks to PINTEREST. I love the applique and distressed look! This is actually much better than a boring black block or for that matter mine is a nondescript light colored wood. I need to find an applique as cute as yours and give it a try.
