Crochet Santa Brooch Pattern

This crochet Santa brooch pattern is so cute I couldn’t resist crocheting it. I saw it on Pinterest, but I had to do a little redesigning to it. I had a particular stitch in mind to do for the beard.  I tried it, and I love the way it turned out.

It’s the cutest little thing. I’m calling mine a Santa brooch, but you can use it for a variety of things. You can use this pattern for gift wrapping decor, earrings (use thread type yarn), to decorate the Christmas tree or to use as a motif on a hat.

Supplies:
yarn: face color, hat color, and beard color / I used Schachenmayr Catania (original) cotton yarn
crochet needle: 0/3.25 mm
blunt and sewing needles
scissors
tiny beads for eyes or black thread to sew them in.
Button or tiny decorative brad for eyes

Pattern Terms:
sl st – slip stitch
beg – beginning
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet

Santa’s head

Rnd 1: Using the face color ch 3, 5dc in 3rd ch from hook, work 1 more dc changing to white, work 6 more dc. Join with a sl st to 1st dc. (12dc)

Rnd 2: ch1, 2dc in each 6sts

Rnd 3: in front loop only (in first loop, sc ch5 sc ch5, in next loop sc ch5) x2 in 5th loop, sc ch5 sc ch5, in last loop sc

Rnd 4: ch1 turn, sc in each 6 loops

Rnd 5: ch1 turn, in front loop only repeat Rnd 3

Rnd 6: sc in next 6 loops

Rnd 7: ch 1 turn, work in both loops repeat Rnd 3

fasten off and weave in ends

6 dc in white, 6 dc in taupe

the hair and beard complete

Hat:

Use the color you choose for the hat

Sl st in dc of beg of beard, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next st, 2dc in next 3 sts, sc in next, ch 5,
hdc in 2n ch from hook, hdc in next 3 chs, sl st in last st on the head, fasten off and weave in ends

You can use whatever elements you would like to bring out the face.
To complete brooch glue felt on back of Santa and sew on a bar pin.
