I had these ceramic tiles that I had bought a couple of years ago. So I decided to make a set of ceramic coasters using Tombow craft supplies.
Supplies for Ceramic Coasters:
click on links below for more information
Travertine Porous Craft Tile
Tombow Mono Twin Pen
Tombow Mono Drawing Pencil
Tombow Irojiten Colored Pencils
Tombow Mono Eraser
Tombow Blending Brush
Tombow Permanent Adhesive
Felt
Circle Puncher (optional)
First you need to know where on the ceramic you want your lettering, so you need to write it with the drawing pencil.
After placing your lettering you can either draw or stamp your art (I did both).
Next, after your stamping and drawing dry, use the Tombow Twin Pen (this pen is permanent and it does not bleed) to draw your lettering and darken your down strokes. Erase the pencil marking and color in your pictures with the Tombow Irojiten pencils. This is optional: Use the Tombow blending brush to smooth out the coloring and give it a painted look.
Before sealing the coaster take a brown pencil and rub around the edges of each coaster for shading. To seal your coaster, spray it lightly with your favorite polyurethane. Make sure this is done in a well-ventilated area.
To protect your furniture, cut out circles with felt and adhere them to the bottom of the ceramic coaster with Tombow Permanent Adhesive.
Here’s a little Crafty Tip:
If you have stamps that need acrylic blocks, don’t go and pay a lot of money for them; make them yourself. Go and buy a sheet of plexiglass, cut it to the sizes you need. You will get a bang for your buck.
Here are the ceramic coasters completed. Hope you take the time to create these wonderful coasters, to express yourself in words. It’s a great addition to your decor and to give as a gift!
