Stencil a Beautiful Moroccan Rug

By Cynthia 9 Comments

If you can’t afford to buy a rug for $300; stencil one that will look as good as a $300 dollar rug. To stencil a 5×7 rug is easy and it’s something you will be very proud of. I purchased my rug from Walmart.com and my paint from Lowes.com. “MyColor” paint washes up very easy and it was so easy to work with. Oh, I purchased the stencil from Hobby Lobby…using a coupon of course.DSC_2897

First I measured the width of the rug. Then I measured the width of the stencil from one cut-out point to the other cut-out point (not the edge). I divided the width of the stencil  by the width of the rug and I ended up with 3 (your number could be different)…with the remaining inches I divided them by 2 and that left me with 5 1/4 inches and this is where I placed the stencil at the cut-out point from the edge of the rug. I taped the stencil on the rug and stenciled one row at a time to the end of the rug.

When I came to the edge of the rug I put newspaper under the rug to protect the floor; and I taped the stitched edge of the rug because I didn’t want the edge to have paint on it. Then I finished the sides off.

Finish! Now that was easy!

That rug is gorgeous. And so is the kitchen itself. And the Life is Beautiful print. Anyway, what a great idea to spice up a rug on a dime! I have a plain beige pier 1 rug that I like, but it’s kindof a snooze. Stencils here I come!!
    Pinned & following!!

Thanks Kim, I’ve seen this technique all over the internet and I just had to give it a try. I was so proud of it when I finished; it compliments my kitchen so well…love it! Oh by the way, the “Life is Beautiful” print…I paid fifty cents for the poster and about a dollar for the frame…@walmart.

Whenever you go to Walmart…check out the discount section…always have it hidden in some corner in the store
